Classic Railbird Hunting Skiff
Railbird hunting is done along the edges of the marsh, shallow water mud flats and dense vegetation where they are commonly found searching for food.
Poling these stealthy crafts in and out the marsh in attempt to flush out the birds is a common technique.
The boat measures 24” X 6” comes complete with stand, oars, push pole, 6 decoys and anchor.

VINTAGE CHESAPEAKE "UPPER BAY" BUSHWHACKER HUNTING BOAT REPLICA
One of the Chesapeake's most unique gunning techniques was bushwhacking. It was only practical along the upper reaches of the bay. The art of bushwhacking required a large rig of decoys (as many as 200) to be set out in open water.
The boat measures 21 - 1/2" long X 7" wide. The curtain/skirt is cotton, heavy starched to make it stiff and its removable. Comes complete with 2 SETS OF ROWING OARS, 1 LONG TILLER OAR, 2 SHOTGUNS, STAND and 12 HAND CARVED, HAND PANINTED CANVASBACK DRAKE DECOYS.
Over 50 pieces to this boat and like all of my work, this is not a kit, built one piece at a time taking many hours. Its been antiqued and distressed to simulate many years of use.

Creole Rowing Skiff
Here's a nice vintage replica of the "Creole Rowing Skiff" also known as a "Push Skiff" used by many Cajuns on the Louisiana bayous. One unique feature of the skiff is the method used in rowing them. A device known as a "joug" (or yoke) elevates the oars above the gunwales and extends the tholepins and straps beyond the side of the craft. This allows for easy rowing while standing and facing forward.
It is a technique that was introduced from southern Europe, where such a method of rowing boats is common.
These were used for fishing, netting, running traps and sometimes just basic transportation on the bayous.
There are no blueprints for building boats like these, no plans or patterns. Not even a sketch. Boats of this kind, like most of Louisiana's traditional designs, are not documented anywhere on paper but in the mind of the maker.
It measures 20" X 6" handmade one piece at a time, like all of my boats, using no kits. Hand painted and distressed to simulate many years of use.

Pipe & Battery Gun Boat
Here's an exceptional Pipe & Battery hunting boat model replica.
This boat measures 24" X 5 1/2" and has been antiqued and distressed to simulate many years of use. Comes complete with gun, oars, jack light, floor boards and stand.
Pipe & Battery - A battery was several black powder barrels welded together forming a battery. A trough of black powder was lit to set off all barrels at once. The average battery gun would shoot a 10-foot wide pattern at 30 yards. Batteries held three to eight black powder pipe barrels a quarter-inch apart and spread out a wider pattern. The powder was lit when the percussion lock caused a spark and each gun would shoot almost simultaneously. These guns were very dangerous but very effective in killing large numbers of birds with one discharge.
Combined with a "Jack Light" used for night hunting, the killing of rafting ducks and geese at night tolled very large numbers.
All my boats are hand made one piece at a time using no 'Kits". Several of my models can be seen on display at the Ducks Unlimited Waterfowl Heritage center at the "Pyramid" in Memphis Tennessee.
